Lamu flooding

I came across this photo in one of the local daily newspaper of a man crosses a flooded River Mukuru at Mpeketoni in Lamu District with his baby lifted above the water after the bridge was washed away by the floods.

Some Lamu residents are faced with the twin threats of disease and famine as a result of floods.

With at least 6,000 people in Mpeketoni and Witu divisions marooned, and more than 10,000 acres of farmland under water, the prospects of an outbreak of water-borne diseases and lack of food in the near future are high.
