The beaches in Tanzania are stunning. They line the mainland, separating the wide, vast Savanna from the deep unknown Ocean.
The Zanzibar and Mafia Archipelago further add to the Tanzanian beach experience with their powdery, white sands. Bake, snorkel, swim or hide in the shade; no matter which way you choose to go, you will enjoy yourself on the beach safari. Stone Town is the heart of Zanzibar. Its ancient labyrinths still puzzles travelers from all over the world. But Stone Town is noisy and crowded. Stone Town is filled with cobblestones and unyielding walls. What you are looking for is the wide open space of the sea. The long white stretch of sand north and south. The only thing you want to hear on your relaxing beach safari is the rustling and whispering of palm-trees. The only thing you want to smell is that delicious scent of the sea. Where you need to be right now is not in Stone Town, but far north, in Nungwi. Nungwi is an old dhow making village. In recent times it has become rather busy. However, it is not impossible to find your own quiet spot. All you need is a little imagination and some patience. The beaches at Nungwi, despite the people, are especially pristine. The waters are so crystal clear that there is no way of differentiating between the turquoise of the ocean, and the deep, deep blue of the sky. No seaweed grown on this side of Zanzibar, swimming is less of a chore.
