My Visit To Severin Sea Lodge
One of the perks of working with a travel agency is that once in a while we are given the opportunity to visit some of the top lodges and hotels in the country and enjoy FREE food and accommodation. We call them “fam trips” where the hotels/lodges take us in to show us more about their facilities so that we can sell them better to our clients
You get full board accommodation and get to enjoy nearly all their facilities for free. As a staff member of Africa Point I had the golden opportunity of visiting Severin Sea Lodge in Mombasa. We took a bus from Nairobi to Mombasa which is 7 hrs drive by road. Its best to take the trip at night which allows you to sleep through the journey. On arrival the staff was very friendly and alert on our arrival.
The food and facilities did not disappoint and i can honestly say its worth the price that you will pay to stay here.. Severin Sea lodge is on the North Coast of Mombasa and its close to the main town.
On the night we arrived we got to dine in the Imani Dhow restaurant . The restaurant is in the form of a dhow. It was my first time to taste some of the sea food on offer here so it was quite an experience for me. Below is a photo of the restaurant
There rooms are perfectly maintained and very clean. This is one of the rooms in Severin..its called the Comfort Rooms
The following day we were told we would join other tourists on a “Mombasa by Night” cruise package where you get to visit Mombasa Historical habour at night. The package allows you to experience the sounds and flavors of the ancient heritage of Mombasa on Fort Jesus.
Below is a short video as one of our team moves towards the Jahazi Marine Dhow
Here guests are being entertained by the crew on board. My only wish is that they provide the guests with lifesaver jackets.
Here guys are about to cross the famous Nyali bridge
After we docked on the Old Port our guide led us on a walk through the historic Old Town to the 400 year old Fortress of Fort Jesus. Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese as a stronghold at the entrance to the harbor. The fort is a stunning example of 16th Century military architecture that survived centuries of attacks and conquests.
Here we were welcomed by Portuguese and Arab fire bearers before witnessing a dazzling sound and light show that was followed by a sumptuous dinner served within the walls of Fort Jesus.
After dinner we were taken back to the Lodge for our night’s rest. The following day we were taken to Severin Safari Camp which is also owned by Severin Sea lodge. It is located inside the Tsavo West National park in Voi. Inside the park on our way to the lodge i was a bit disappointed because i did not get to see any wild animals. I guess i was not being very fair cause i was comparing Tsavo to the Maasai Mara. Below are some of t he photos of the camp…
The entrance..
The Restaurant..
The tent..
To me the lodge seems to be located in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant and facilities are ok and I found it interesting when we were told that because the lodge is not enclosed, wild animals including lions can roam into the lodge especially at night so for you to move around you need protection from the guards there.
Overall, the whole trip was fantastic!!
