The event will bring together African tourism ministers, travel agents, tour operators, heads of national tourism boards among other members of the tourism sector who will address challenges related to global tourism promotion to Africa.

The Egypt congress builds on the success of the nation’s longstanding ties with ATA. In 1983 and 1991,the association held its eighth and sixteenth congress in Cairo. The country aggressively embarked on tourism promotion in 1983 and by 1991 tourist arrivals had more than doubled before reaching a record high of over 8.6 million in 2004.

Tourism is currently the largest source of foreign currency in Egypt. Building on this growth the country plans to welcome 16 million tourism arrivals by 2014.
