Many residents of Kogelo, both young and old, hope that an Obama presidency will translate into development of the area.
Already, there is one development that has spread smiles on the faces of the residents. The 5km dirt road that leads to the trading centre is undergoing a makeover and the locals believe this is just but the beginning.
Students at Senator Obama-Nyangoma Primary School - renamed after Mr Obama’s visit in 2006 are optimistic that their school will get new facilities while others believe the area will get electricity connection.
Hundreds of miles from Kogelo, residents of the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi are excited and a group of youths have marched around the main streets of the city singing in praise of the Democrat.
Earlier in the day the government of Kenya declared Thursday a public holiday in the honour of Mr Obama.
The party kicks off later Wednesday and a bull has been set aside at Kogelo to be slaughtered for the festivities while clubs and restaurants in Nairobi are selling their products at discounted rates. PHOTO/AFP
