For international travelers to Ghana there are several flights available depending where you are flying in from.
The Kotaka International Airport in Ghana is linked to the rest of the African continent through regional flights and sub-regional flights. For travelers outside Africa, there are a number of flights coming in from Europe.
The main carriers flying into Accra include British Airways (flying from London), KLM (from Amsterdam), Alitalia (from Rome), and Lufthansa (from Frankfurt) and of course Ghana Airways, the national carrier that makes the Rome, London, and Dusseldort connections. Visitors coming in to Ghana through the Kotaka International Airport should note that there easiest way to get into the city is through the use of a taxi. However, cheaper alternatives are available for the adventurous soul. Tro-tros or minibuses are a much cheaper alternative. The catch however, is that you will be squeezed into close proximity with all the other passengers and the buses will usually be very full before they take off for the city. For tourists coming in by land, Ghana has several borders through which one can enter. Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso all have borders with Ghana. VanefSTC buses, whose tickets can be booked in Accra, will take you to the boarders of these countries. It is also possible to travel within Ghana with the tro-tros. The advantage here is that the tro-tros will take you along routes and to places where regular bus companies do not go. They are cheap and offer a good alternative although they leave very full and have no specific schedule. You will get as close as it gets to the people! So now you’ve made it to Ghana, what next? There are several attractions around the country to ensure that your Ghana tour is a memorable one. Ghana itself is a 21st century mixture of the modern and the old, cozily living side by side. Once in Ghana, you can travel by road using taxis, rented cars, and tro-tros, or by rail and boat. Take an breathtaking ride along Lake Volta, the beautiful and largest man-made lake on the continent. Travel between Akosombo and Yeji on the Yapei Quee, a passenger boat. This ride will take you from the south to the north ends of the lake. It is a 24-hour trip that will leave you wanting more. The trips start on Monday and tickets can be booked through the Volta Lake Transport Company. Passengers on the boat include humans, livestock, and produce. From Timale, you can plan trips further north and east on the lake, just book and plan with some of the smaller ferry services there.
